Tesco Ulster Junior Championship Preliminary Round

Scotstown (Monaghan) 7-9 Tir na Nog (Antrim) 1-4

MICHELLE Treanor hit 4-4 to fire Scotstown into the Quarter Finals of the Ulster Junior Championship at St Mary’s Park on Wednesday, September 15. The visitors did open the games scoring with an Emma O’Neill point but the Blues were soon in control once Rhona Heekin struck for their first major on 10 minutes to put them in front after Orla McCarville had levelled matters on four minutes. Michelle Treanor fired a penalty wide on 12 minutes but did not let this effect her as she went on to turn in a stunning performance. A minute later she split the posts with a super point and then rattled the net twice before the break to leave it Scotstown 4-4 Tir na Nog 0-2 at the interval, Orla McCarville with the home sides other major.

To their credit the Antrim side give a much better account of themselves after the break with Dervla O’Neill, Aimee McAtamney, Michaela Convery and Sarah McNicholl all catching the eye. McNicholl hit 1-1 within five minutes of the resumption to give them a glimmer of hope but they were dealt a blow when full forward Emma O’Neill was sin binned for a very high challenge of Scotstown ‘keeper Edel Corrigan. Further goals from Michelle Treanor (2) and Pamela Carey wrapped up the victory and set up a clash with the Cavan champions in the next round.
